We were all a little sad to leave Arizona so soon, but it was time to start heading back home. The first Thursday night we drove to Zion National Park. It was dark when we arrived in the park but it was still really cool to drive through the MILE-LONG tunnel through the mountain. We stayed in the hotel located in the middle of the park which was really neat. The view when we woke up was beautiful. We had a great morning exploring and hiking.
In the afternoon we headed towards Provo. We pasted a billboard for Cove Fort. Having never heard of it, I looked it up online on my phone and found out it was a fort built by President Hinckley's grandfather that had been restored. So we stopped for a tour. It was very nice. The kids loved running and playing there. If you are ever driving up from southern Utah, we would recommend the stop.
We got to Provo late in the evening. After getting the kids in bed, we grabbed a late dinner with Brent at the Bombay House -- our ultimate favorite Indian food restaurant. Assorted snacks, chicken tikka masala, chicken saag, mango lassi, peshwari naan... so incredibly good! We talked with Brent until they kicked us out. We met my grandma for breakfast at Jamestown at 8 am (so early for us!!), fed the ducks and watched the morning session of General Conference with her and Brent.
After Conference, we started the LONG journey back to Portland. We decided it was less painful to drive straight through and get home to watch Sunday Conference on our couch, rather than try to sleep somewhere else yet again. Thank heavens for the DVD player for the kids and the Mormon Channel for us so we could listen to the afternoon session of Conference.
It was a fabulous trip. We got home totally exhausted in need of some serious sleep, but we had a great time and built some wonderful memories for our family. We will definitely do something like that again!
